The great french philosopher Michel Foucaul said : ‘knowledge is power.’ Just like Foucaul said, today’s world is an age of knowledge-based economy.If we want to be a somebody, we need not only good attitude, but also a lot of professional knowledge.

From thousands of years ago, jurisdiction has been a very professional knowledge.If you have never learned it hardly, though you understand the every words of the law or a court verdict ,you don’t know how to use it to solve the legal problem.

The main reason why I want to study master degree is just as the words I said before. I want to learn the more professional knowledge than what I learned in my college life so that I can become useful person in the age of knowledge-based economy. Besides, followings are the other reasons why I want to study master degree:

First, While in Rome, do as the Romans do. Every countries nowadays have its own law. Today’s world is a global village. We do a lot of things, such as work, with foreigners or in other countries. To be sure we can do things with no trouble, we heve to not only understand the law of R.O.C, but also law of other countries. The graduate law school will provide such courses and have a lot of resources about the foreign law.

Second, I think law is a powerful knowledge. I want to help a lot of the minority by this knowledge. A lot of people criticize lawyers just service the rich men nowadays In Taiwan, and these rich men are also the bosses of our courts. In other words, the judicial resources are controlled by the rich men and lawyers are just services for them. I want to change such opinion, and help people who really need to be protected. To achieve my goal, I need to learn more things so that I will have enough knowledge and ability to help the people who need to be helped.

I want to share you a story. It is a story about Ryouma Sakamoto, who is the one of the greatest Japanese in the modern times, and this story reminds me of the importance of law.

One day, Ryouma bumped into a samurai when he walked on the street, and the samurai showed Ryouma his brand-new sowrd. However,  Ryouma just laughed and told him: “This sowrd is too long to be a good weapon. If I were you, I’ll use the knife. Because I can pull the knife out and attack you quickly in the period that you pull out your long sword.”

The samurai think what Ryouma said made sence. A few weeks later, he took a knife as his weapon and met with Ryouma. But the samurai was laughed by Ryouma this time. Ryouma showed him a pistol and told him:”Knife is useless. This is the age of pistolss now.”

After few weeks, the samurai found Ryouma and showed him a gun. However, Ryouma smiled , showed him a book named《The Public Law of Nations》, and told him:”My friend, swords, knife, or guns, such as weapons are not the most useful things now. From now on , it is the generation of law. ”

Ryouma told not only the samurai but also us the importance of legal knowledge.And we can realize that law has benn lmportant bout many hundreds years ago, needless to say the world nowdays.

In sum, to be a professional and powerful lawyer. I must enter graduate law school, so that I can learn more things and become more professional. And I am sure that the knowledge will help me to achieve my goal that to be useful to this society and I can help a lot of people who need to be helped.
